CLASS V WHITEWATER “TUMWATER CANYON"
Shish, just the mention of the name is enough to give most river guides the shivers! Anyone who has seen this stretch of the Wenatchee River crashing through the streambed just west of Leavenworth knows what I mean. In the spring snowmelt and high water flows this section of the river explodes like ocean waves in a mid sea storm. Even at low flows, the Tumwater Canyon can pack a wallop! Big holes, powerful waves and awesome hydraulics fill the rapids. Between 1,000 and 3,500 c.f.s., this becomes a challenging class IV and V pool-drop run. All of the toughest drops with names like "The Wall", "Chaos" and "Double Drop" are scouted. * Previous river experience required.
