Shane Turnbull, Chinook Expeditions In 1988, Turnbull founded Chinook Expeditions, a rafting company, designed to provide an unparalleled insight to the river sheds of which we are all interconnected with. At Chinook Expeditions, Shane Turnbull offers a synergy of year around river explorations that are led with enthusiasm, professionalism and experience. At 14 years old, Shane Turnbull started his career as a wilderness river guide in the region of Washington State known as the North Cascades National Park and the Ross Lake Recreation Area. Since 1974, he has gone on to pioneer many of Washington’s commercial river rafting trips in the Cascade and Olympic Mountain Ranges, as well as exploring other wilderness rivers throughout the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. Guiding over 103,000 miles on 92 different rivers, he has logged more than 2,900 trips to his professional record and continues to average about 164 days on the river per year. Shane is recognized not only as a highly experienced wilderness guide, but one of the best at teaching professional river rafting and outdoor skills. He is well versed in the ecological, cultural and historical features of the areas he visits. His knowledge of and experience in all aspects of adventure travel and environmental education reflects his extensive training and certifications. He is a fully licensed and insured senior trip leader in Washington, British Columbia and Hawaii. He believes that expert leadership is the most important ingredient for the most rewarding river journeys and adventure vacations.
